Construction Diplomas
24 July 2008
Construction Diplomas will replace Construction Awards and launch on 1st August 2008. The benefits of the new qualifications are:
Apprentices and learners will be more skilled and knowledgeable
Individuals will be better able to cope with moving across various projects, contracts and employers which might demand different but complementary occupational requirements
A standardised testing strategy for consistency with knowledge tests at unit level, a practical assignment and the GOLA (Global Online Assessment) test.
Feedback from launch events identified a need for a two month overlap between the new Construction Diplomas being launched and Construction Awards expiring. Construction Awards will now expire on the 30th September. Registered learners will have the standard run on periods after the end accreditation date, i.e. one year for the FCA, two years for the ICA and three years for the ACA.
Construction Diplomas have been designed to meet the requirements of Ofqual's new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) which categorises a qualification based on the number of credits it attracts.
Award (1 to 12 credits)
Certificate (13 to 36 credits)
Diploma (37+ credits)
The number of credits awarded is based on the number of learning hours for each qualification with every ten notional learning hours attracting 1 credit. Find out more about the QCF at: www.qca.org.uk
Following on from customer feedback regarding consistency of testing, CAA are producing knowledge tests which will apply across the country, helping to ensure learners are tested consistently throughout the qualifications. As of the 1st of September Question & Answer packs for the new Diplomas will be available for the most popular occupational areas and will cost £50 per occupation and level. Each pack contains 20 multi-choice questions with 4 possible answers for each and must be used for testing of candidate’s knowledge for the individual units within the new Construction Diplomas.
Question and Answer packs for the remaining diplomas will be available by 1st December.
To order your Question & Answer packs please contact our Publications Team on 01485 577800 quoting your purchase order number, alternatively, credit card payments are accepted.
